Kit is worth evaluating for a creator newsletter with a real editorial purpose. Before assessing forms or automation, check whether your business and content fit its acceptable-use rules. Kit is not a blanket recommendation for every affiliate marketing operation.
If this operating setup fits your needs, check the current Kit offer while you compare the requirements below.
Check eligibility first
Kit’s affiliate guidance says creators need their own business or content outside affiliate marketing. Some affiliate activity is allowed and some is restricted. Review the actual policy and provide support a truthful description of your model when uncertain.
Do not hide the nature of your business or route links differently to evade a restriction. A useful independent publication may differ from an operation primarily distributing affiliate promotions, but the provider decides eligibility under its current terms.
The June 29, 2026 affiliate guidance specifically excludes affiliate promotions for education, loans, online pharmacies, and get-rich-quick software. This is a restriction on those affiliate promotions, rather than a blanket statement about owning an education business. Check the exact proposed content before using the service.
The basic newsletter workflow
Start with a clear signup promise: topic, frequency, and the kind of material readers will receive. Build a form, write a welcome message, and plan a sustainable broadcast schedule. A service cannot make an unclear publication useful.
Kit provides forms, landing pages, broadcasts, and audience organization. Its current Free-plan guide separates those capabilities from paid automation and sequence features. Verify present entitlements rather than assuming an old ConvertKit review still describes the account.
When paid automation helps
Automation can deliver a structured introduction or respond to an expressed interest. Begin with a small sequence whose purpose you can explain. Complex branching is unnecessary if you have not yet established what readers need.
Test entry conditions, exclusions, timing, and completion behavior. Existing subscribers should not receive a new-subscriber welcome accidentally. An automated campaign can repeat mistakes quickly, so a simple validated process is valuable.
Editorial and commercial balance
A newsletter should provide something useful before asking for a purchase. Explain the relevant decision, limitations, and current sources. Disclose commercial relationships clearly, and do not present a partner’s product as your own.
Keep promotional claims honest. Researched software advice should say when it is based on documentation rather than personal testing. Avoid invented earnings, clients, or transformation stories. The email platform does not verify those claims for you.
Migration needs a plan
Changing platforms involves more than a subscriber CSV. Recreate forms, templates, automation, integrations, and the intended sending behavior. Preserve consent and suppressed status. Do not reactivate unsubscribed contacts just because they appear in an export.
Kit describes migration help for paid accounts. Confirm the scope and schedule before shutting down your old service. Use sample tests and compare records before sending to the entire list.
How to evaluate the service
Try a real signup path, a test broadcast, and one allowed automation if your plan supports it. Review messages on desktop and mobile. Check links, footer information, unsubscribe behavior, and the destination experience.
Assess whether the workflow is clear enough for the person who maintains it. More features do not improve a newsletter if the underlying content schedule is unsustainable.
Limitations and alternatives
Compare subscriber-based billing at your expected list size. Check team access, ecommerce integration, reporting, and migration needs. If considering another provider, inspect its affiliate policy too; occasional affiliate links and affiliate marketing as a business can be treated differently.
My recommendation is to evaluate Kit after confirming eligibility and defining an original newsletter purpose. Buy paid capabilities when a specific workflow requires them. Do not treat a subscriber limit, an automation feature, or an affiliate link as a promise of income or inbox placement.
