Moving a podcast to Podbean requires preserving the established feed relationship as well as copying episodes. Plan the import, redirect, media checks, and directory verification before canceling the original host. A completed import screen is only one part of the move.
If this operating setup fits your needs, check the current Podbean offer while you compare the requirements below.
Confirm the prerequisites
The current official migration guide says the import feature requires Unlimited Audio or higher. Have the source RSS URL and access to both hosting accounts. Verify that the source host supports the redirect process you need.
Inventory media files, episode descriptions, artwork, feed settings, distribution listings, and historical analytics. Keep independent copies. A migration may not preserve every analytic dimension from the original service.
Prepare the destination
Create the intended account and show channel. Confirm current file allowance and format requirements. Ensure you are importing into the right show rather than creating a duplicate public listing.
Record the old and new feed URLs. Keep the source account available while you validate the destination. Do not use account cancellation as the first migration step.
Import the feed
Follow Settings and Import to Podbean using the RSS source. Review the options for podcast information and media conversion. The documentation notes MP3 requirements for its Spotify submission route; verify that your selected distribution workflow and files are compatible.
Inspect imported titles, notes, dates, artwork, and episode ordering. Compare representative old and new episodes, including any special characters or important links.
Configure the redirect
Set the required 301 redirect through the source host or your controlled feed infrastructure. Then use Podbean’s redirect check. Its current guide describes completing media import after the redirect succeeds.
A redirect sends existing feed users toward the destination. It is not the same as redirecting your ordinary website homepage. Follow the source provider’s exact current instructions.
Verify media
Check the destination media manager and play a representative set of episodes. Include early, recent, long, and unusual-format files. Confirm that the new host actually serves the expected media.
Compare counts and investigate missing items. If there are private or premium episodes, confirm their separate migration scope rather than assuming the public RSS contains everything.
Verify distribution
Inspect established listings in Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other directories you use. Confirm the intended feed and test playback. If an update is delayed, consult current directory and provider guidance.
Avoid submitting a duplicate show as a shortcut. Existing subscribers and listings should be handled through the supported migration path. Correct redirect behavior supports continuity, but it still needs verification.
Handle historical statistics
Podbean describes importing total historical episode downloads. Preserve source reports too, because a total does not necessarily reproduce all dates, locations, platforms, or measurement methods.
Label the old and new reporting periods. Do not interpret differences between provider measurement as a sudden audience change without checking definitions.
Keep a verification window
The self-hosted migration guide recommends keeping the old account live for a few weeks so directories can update. Use a period appropriate to your actual source arrangement and preserve the redirect requirements.
Cancel only after the intended media, metadata, feed, and directories are verified and needed records retained. Document the accepted billing and cancellation terms. A careful cutover protects the relationship with listeners who already follow the show.
