Research checked October 5, 2026. U.S. pricing unless stated otherwise; checkout, taxes, location and selected services can change the total.
PostScan Mail is worth investigating when you want a physical receiving location with remote scanning and forwarding. Its published price list is detailed enough to show why the subscription alone is not the full cost. Opening mail, retaining parcels and sending originals can each change the bill.
The practical buying process is to choose a suitable location, estimate actual actions and confirm the selected plan. A personal account with occasional letters and a business receiving parcels are different workloads. Comparing them using one headline monthly number misses the decision.
Current plan figures
The official pricing page currently advertises monthly Starter from $10 and Standard from $20. It also shows annual options such as $100 billed annually for Starter and $200 for Standard, with effective monthly figures displayed. These are different billing commitments, not interchangeable monthly payments.
The same page presents different recipient and scanning allowances across billing modes. Check the selected address and full plan card rather than assuming the monthly and annual versions contain identical benefits. Save the checkout record so you can reconcile later invoices.
Locker plans appear alongside ordinary mailbox plans. Those have their own per-item processing and forwarding charges. Do not choose a locker amount as though it were the price of a scan-oriented virtual mailbox subscription.
Opening and scanning costs
The published additional-fee schedule lists an extra open-and-scan request at $2 per envelope for up to ten pages, followed by $0.25 per additional page. Incoming items over the plan allowance are listed separately. Those two fees measure different tasks.
A hypothetical eleven-page contract can use one incoming-item allowance and create a content-scan request beyond the first ten pages. A one-page letter can be less costly to open even though both arrive in one envelope. Count expected pages, not only envelopes.
For an online business, classify documents before requesting scans. Advertising may not merit opening. A supplier contract, tax notice or payment letter may. Scanning everything by default can waste money, while scanning too little can leave important correspondence unread.
Storage rules deserve attention
The public fee schedule separates envelope storage from package storage and gives different free windows for monthly and annual plans. Package storage is priced by weight and day after the relevant allowance. Confirm the chosen location’s rules and whether oversized items are handled differently.
That makes frequent account review useful. A parcel you leave untouched can create charges even if you did not request a scan or shipment. Decide what happens to each item before the free window expires.
The official storage help page is another place to check current handling. If the plan card and help documentation differ, ask support which terms control your account. Do not rely on a blog’s old summary for a continuing daily charge.
Forwarding and local pickup
The published standard forwarding schedule currently describes $2 for the first item and $0.50 for each additional item in a bundle, plus shipping. The actual shipment cost still depends on destination, carrier, weight and packed size. Ask for a complete quote.
The page says many locations offer free pickup while some charge a fee. That is another reason to compare the actual address rather than the platform’s name. Check hours, appointment rules, identification and how an authorized person may collect mail.
If you plan to pick up large parcels, ask about holding limits and equipment access. A convenient downtown address may be awkward for loading bulky items. The best location is the one that fits the physical work you expect.
Shredding is different from recycling
The official shredding and recycling guidance distinguishes destruction options. Choose based on the sensitivity of the material, and confirm the charge before applying a default rule.
Keep originals when a contract, agency or financial institution requires them. Read and save the scan before requesting destruction. A convenient digital record can be useful without being a substitute for every physical document.
For a business account, define who has authority to destroy items. An assistant should have clear instructions for routine advertising, statements and legal notices. That decision should not depend on a quick guess from an envelope image.
Identity and recipients
For U.S. commercial mail receipt, consult the current USPS Form 1583. It requires photo identification plus separate address evidence, and the same driver’s ID cannot count as both. Business use and personal household use have different instructions.
PostScan’s pricing page also discusses authorization for additional recipient names. Ask how your company name, trade names and household members should be entered before important mail is redirected. Confirm activation rather than assuming payment alone means receipt is authorized.
If an account holder is outside the United States, confirm supported documents and notarization arrangements. Do not replace the actual home address requested by the form with the mailbox address simply because you are buying remote mail service.
Institutional address acceptance
A physical street address used for mail is not automatically a residential or operating address accepted by a bank. Ask each institution about the exact intended use. Its correspondence rules can differ from identity-verification or business-location rules.
Likewise, a mailbox is not automatically an appointed registered agent. If the selected service offers agent work, verify state availability, entity eligibility and the required appointment filing. Keep legal agent obligations separate from general correspondence handling.
For a household move, update important senders directly. Preserve truthful residential information where required and change the mailing field when that is the intended purpose. A postal redirect is only part of the transition.
Who it fits and how to compare
PostScan Mail is worth considering for someone who can select a convenient location and estimate mail actions carefully. It can be a poor fit if you leave packages stored indefinitely or request many scans without understanding per-action charges.
Compare US Global Mail if workflow coordination matters, and iPostal1 if another local center offers better pickup convenience. Use the same recipients, pages, retained parcels and shipments across the comparison.
My verdict
PostScan Mail deserves a shortlist place when the location and action-fee structure fit your real routine. Its detailed public fee schedule helps you calculate beyond the subscription, but you need to use that detail before buying.
Check PostScan’s current locations and plans, confirm identity activation, and test one noncritical item before moving important correspondence. The useful outcome is reliable mail handling at an understood cost.
