Moz Pro vs Semrush: audits, keyword research, and tool limits

Disclosure: This article contains affiliate links. I may earn a commission if you buy through them. This is a researched guide, not a claim of hands-on testing.

Moz Pro versus Semrush should be evaluated with actual research, audit, and reporting tasks. Both offer an SEO environment, but their package structure, models, and limits differ. Choose by completed work rather than a universal winner label.

Use the same real task when you review the current product requirements and check the current Semrush offer.

Dated monthly-billing comparison

Checked October 5, 2026. This comparison uses two named USD offers on monthly billing, before taxes and optional additions, so annual discounts and rounded annual equivalents do not obscure the base charge. These are public offers, not a promise of account eligibility or future pricing.

Moz Standard versus Semrush Starter SEO + AI Search
Item Moz Pro Standard Semrush Starter
Base monthly charge $99 USD $199 USD
Included user model 1 user Account owner; extra users purchased separately
Tracked/monitored sites 3 5
Tracked keywords 300 500, tracked daily
Crawl allowance 100,000 pages/week; headline also summarizes 400,000/month Pro SEO Toolkit: 100,000/month, up to 20,000/audit
JavaScript rendering Site Crawl docs warn it cannot reliably discover JavaScript-only links Starter contains Pro; rendering docs require Guru or Business, so do not assume included
Reporting additions Base crawl inventory can export PDF/CSV; custom branding/scheduling not assumed included Base Report listed separately at $10/month; extra users start at $45/month

The capacity numbers have different periods and per-run restrictions. Four weeks of a weekly allowance are not a calendar-month entitlement. The relevant workload may hit a per-audit limit before a monthly limit.

The sources are the official Moz comparison and Semrush’s current offer, plus their crawl documentation. The Starter-to-Pro mapping comes from Semrush’s subscription guidance. A current quote must confirm entitlements if package naming changes.

Concrete choice: a single operator with three or fewer sites and up to 300 tracked terms can shortlist Moz Standard at the lower base monthly charge, particularly when HTML crawl inventory and its larger stated weekly allowance match the task. An operator needing four or five sites, 301–500 tracked terms and the combined daily AI-prompt workflow can shortlist Semrush Starter. Neither choice establishes a speed, accuracy or ranking winner. For mandatory JavaScript rendering, neither of these specific entry configurations should be selected without resolving the documented limitation.

Research and proprietary metrics

Try an actual article question. Assess whether each tool helps you understand demand, inspect result intent, and preserve a clear decision. Compare the usefulness of the brief, not merely the exported row count.

Moz Domain Authority and Semrush metrics are proprietary. They are not directly interchangeable measurements or Google guarantees. Record the provider and context rather than merging different scales into one scorecard value.

Validate the crawl result

A report finding is a lead to investigate. Confirm the affected URL and group template defects. A vendor crawler failing a request does not automatically establish identical browser or Google behavior.

Reporting and team access

Ask the person using the report what decision it must support. Confirm seats, scheduling, exports, branding, and additions where relevant. A beautiful dashboard with no assigned action provides little operational benefit.

Keep estimates separate from your own verified data. Estimated competitor visits are not audited analytics. AI citations, rankings, clicks, and purchases should not be added together as if they were the same outcome.

Current package names

Moz’s current page distinguishes its tiers and AI-related resources. Semrush distinguishes an SEO offer from combined Starter, Pro+, and Advanced scope, while some documentation names underlying Pro, Guru, and Business toolkits.

Match the exact account entitlement. Older reviews can use different names, prices, or limits. Ask for clarification when a summary and detailed resource table use different time units.

Compare accepted costs

Use the full charge at the same period and currency. Annual equivalents may be rounded, so explicit billed totals matter. Include seats, required reporting additions, taxes, and renewal conditions.

Run a real sample before committing to a larger annual purchase. A transition period has time cost, and duplicated subscriptions need a clear end date.

Choose the workflow

Consider Moz when its research, crawl, and reporting environment fits the team’s recurring process. Consider Semrush when its connected broader scope solves a documented requirement. Neither should be bought because a proprietary metric appears to promise authority.

Keep your topic rationale, sources, and issue histories outside either account. Complete one useful action during evaluation. Then review the current product requirements or check the current Semrush offer with a concrete understanding of what the purchase enables.

Sources and review date
