Moz Pro site audits: prioritizing findings before writing more content

A Moz Pro site audit is a starting point for investigation. The report can help identify URLs needing attention, but useful repair requires understanding the cause and verifying the result. Do not treat every row as a separate production change.

If this operating setup fits your needs, review the current product requirements while you compare the requirements below.

Check scope before interpreting findings

Confirm the campaign’s domain, subdomain, or folder. A crawl limited to one section cannot establish the condition of the entire website. Review the settings and date before comparing reports.

Moz’s documentation explains that its crawler follows accessible links and can encounter limitations from robots rules, server responses, redirects, and page construction. A low page count can reflect crawl discovery or access problems rather than content deletion.

Investigate access failures first

Start with important pages that cannot be reached reliably. Check the URL, status code, redirect destination, and server behavior. Compare the browser experience with the crawl evidence. Ask the host or developer for logs when the cause remains unclear.

Do not disable a security control globally just to clear a crawler error. Identify the actual bot request and the required access. Moz’s troubleshooting documentation distinguishes its crawler from other bots; configuration should be specific and justified.

Separate templates from isolated defects

Group repeated issues by their common origin. If navigation creates broken links across hundreds of pages, fix the source component. Editing every individual page can be slower and leave the next generated page broken.

For an isolated editorial defect, correct the page directly. Keep the affected URLs and the expected result in the task so the person implementing the fix has a concrete acceptance check.

Prioritize by reader impact

Use a practical order: unavailable important pages, broken navigation, incorrect redirects, indexing questions, and then metadata or presentation improvements. Adapt that order to the actual site. A minor report warning should not displace a checkout failure or missing article body.

Review what the reader sees. A crawl can miss a mobile layout problem or confusing explanation. Technical health and a clean user experience overlap, but neither report automatically verifies the other.

Turn findings into implementable work

For each issue, record an example URL, the observed behavior, likely cause, proposed action, owner, and validation method. Include the report date and configuration. This helps prevent a vague ticket such as “fix all SEO errors.”

Keep a rollback path for changes that affect routing, robots rules, or templates. Verify a representative case before applying a broad adjustment. A report warning is insufficient reason to make an irreversible site-wide change without understanding its effect.

Validate after the fix

Revisit the affected page and reproduce the original check. Then use the relevant crawl or recrawl option available on your current plan. Moz documents plan-dependent recrawl availability, so confirm it before assuming you can request repeated full crawls.

Mark the issue resolved only after the behavior changes as intended. A checked box in an issue tracker is not evidence that the next crawl found no problem. Keep notes when a warning is intentionally accepted because it reflects a valid configuration.

Watch for count fluctuations

Compare exported URLs when the crawl total changes. Look for lost internal links, redirects, access errors, scope changes, or discovery limits. Do not interpret every count movement as a search penalty.

Combine crawl observations with Search Console and server evidence when investigating Google access. The tools observe different systems and can disagree without either report being universally wrong.

A sustainable cadence

Run audits around meaningful changes and at a frequency your team can act on. Keep a short backlog of prioritized fixes. Repeatedly generating large reports without closing important issues creates the appearance of monitoring without improving the website.
